Trust membership

Reserve Trust members

The Department of Lands (Lands) is inviting everyone to get involved in reserve trusts across NSW.

Trust membership is an interesting and valuable voluntary role, with the reward of contributing to the local community and working to manage and preserve significant public assets.

A reserve trust is a legal body which cares for reserved or dedicated Crown land on behalf of the people of NSW.

Anyone over the age of 18 can be a reserve trust member. Lands invites everyone to contact their local Lands office to find out how to get involved or speak to Lands using the contact details below.

Crown land can be reserved by the NSW Government for a multitude of purposes, including public recreation, showgrounds, environmental protection, public halls, racecourses and preservation of scenery.

New South Wales has more than 30,000 Crown reserves which have been set aside for public use.

Around 850 of these reserves are managed by community volunteers and councils through reserve trusts.

The system of reserve trusts enables the NSW Government, local councils and members of the community to manage and care for these significant parts of the State for the benefit of everyone.

The skills, experience and enthusiasm of trust boards assist in the protection of Crown reserves and help to build these important areas.

It only takes a small effort to build a community. If you are interested in finding out more about being in a reserve trust, why not read our brochure (PDF 3 mb) or information booklet (PDF 1.5 mb) or view our poster (PDF 284 kb) and postcard (PDF 509 kb).

Anyone interested in finding out more about being a member of a reserve trust can email trustboard@lands.nsw.gov.au or contact your local Crown Lands Office.

New Crown Reserve Trust Award

The new Crown Reserve Trust Award will have two categories for entry - community and local government.

From 2008, everyone who helps manage a reserve trust can enter the award.

The winner of each Crown Reserve Trust Award category will receive a Commonwealth Bank Award Saver Account of $5,000 (total $10,000).
