Financial Searches

What are financial searches?

A financial search (statement of account) reveals the amount of money owing to Lands on Crown land holdings as at a given date.

What is a holding?

Holding is a term used to describe either an incomplete purchase, a perpetual lease, a term lease, a special lease or a permissive occupancy granted under the Crown Lands (Continued Tenures) Act 1989, or any lease or licence granted under the Crown Lands Act 1989.

When are financial searches necessary?

When you are purchasing a property - especially waterfront land or rural properties adjacent to Crown land or Crown roads - you should discuss the need for a financial search with your solicitor.

For further information on waterfront and rural properties, refer to licences and enclosure permits.
