Nelson Bay foreshore

In 2008 the Land and Property Management Authority called for Expressions of Interest (EOI) for private sector proposals to redevelop the Nelson Bay boat harbour and foreshore.

The EOI sought private sector interest to contribute funding to generate improvements along the foreshore that could include landscaping, walkways, cycleways and other recreational infrastructure in public domain areas. These improvements will be of great benefit to local businesses, the tourism market and the community as a whole.

Following an evaluation of EOI submissions, Macquarie Leisure Operations Limited has been selected as the preferred partner for this project.

Redevelopment of the foreshore will be subject to normal environmental and planning approvals and will be consistent with the community endorsed Nelson Bay Foreshore Plan of Management (PDF 1.6 mb) which was adopted in 2008. Any foreshore revitalisation plan will also be subject to further community consultation before development approval is sought.

The Plan of Management, jointly prepared by the Land and Property Management Authority and Port Stephens Council, aims to encourage and promote better use of the Crown foreshore and marina precinct and deliver improved tourism, business and recreational opportunities whilst securing environmental outcomes and better linkages between the foreshore and the Nelson Bay CBD.
